At Baja Naturals, our story begins with a deep-rooted passion for both dogs and the ocean. Our founder, Kevin, grew up alongside five siblings and a loyal canine companion named Cousteau. From a tender age of 3, Kevin's bond with dogs sparked a lifelong love affair with our furry friends and the wonders of the ocean.
Nurturing Nature: A Lifelong Connection
Hailing from the sun-kissed shores of Daytona Beach, FL, Kevin's childhood was infused with the rhythms of the sea. Surfing, fishing, and diving became his way of life, instilling in him an unwavering appreciation for the ocean's beauty and the delicate balance of nature. It was this connection that ultimately led Kevin to pursue a career as a marine biologist and a champion for aquatic conservation.
A Journey of Restoration
Driven by his passion, Kevin ventured into the realm of commercial aquaculture and dedicated his efforts to restoring coral reefs and conserving marine life. In 2002, he achieved a remarkable feat as the first person in the USA to successfully replant a coral reef using land-based aquacultured coral. This groundbreaking accomplishment laid the foundation for the development of the Coral Tree Nursery (TM), a widely embraced method for offshore global coral reef restoration.
The Perfect Convergence: Dogs and Ocean Conservation
Fate led Kevin to the vibrant shores of Southern California, where his two parallel paths intertwined harmoniously. His profound love for animals, particularly dogs, merged seamlessly with his unwavering commitment to ocean conservation. This serendipitous union paved the way for the creation of our sustainable giant kelp dog treats—an embodiment of our dedication to protecting threatened habitats from the coral reefs of the Atlantic to the magnificent kelp forests of the Pacific.
